That is, an extremely healthy mattress may not be healthy for you and may result in harming your body.

But you need not spend sleepless nights searching for a right mattress. Just a little thought will help.

Space Science to your Bedroom

As anything else, science has done the task for you of finding a comfortable and effective sleeping mate with what is called memory foam mattress. As the history has it, what once started as a part of space science research in a research lab as advanced and prestigious as NASA, has now become a part of everybody’s bedroom. You can just comprehend the advanced level of technology and credibility of research that has went behind this particular product.

The science behind Memory Foam

Memory foam is a special kind of foam, which moulds according the shape of an object that applies pressure on it and tries to retain that shape. So, when you lie down on a memory foam mattress, it will compress under the weight and heat of your body and mould itself according to the shape of your body, thereby giving support to every part of your body. Going just a bit deeper into the underlying science, memory foam is made from a polymer material called polyurethane with some other chemicals that make it more viscous and denser than other varieties of foam.

It remains firm in lesser temperatures and becomes softer when temperature increases. Therefore, when the mattress comes in contact with the human body and the human body being warm, the memory foam mattress softens under your body heat and changes its shape according to your body shape. Other normal types of foam are responsive to pressure and weight; memory foam (being more firm and chemically different), is dependent on temperature. Accordingly, it reacts to body temperature and not its weight and hence is able to reshape itself better according to your body shape and is able to support all your body parts more properly. Also, it tends to retain its shape longer owing to it denser nature thus enhancing the support for your body parts.

So, it is better than very soft varieties of foam as those foams just seize under the weight of your body without providing any substantial support and very hard varieties, as they may not reshape at all thus putting extra pressure only some parts of your body.

More than just sleeping foam

Due to its exceptional qualities, memory foam is being used much more widely than just as sleeping mattress. It finds excessive use in medical field especially for patients who have to lie down or keep some body parts in the same positions for long periods continuously. This has solved the problem of aching body parts of patients who were using hard beds or support systems. They regularly complained of aching bony parts, which was caused due to reduced blood flow in those parts as they faced continuous and immense pressure under hard supports.

From space science to medical treatments, now to your bedrooms – memory foam has come a long way as mattresses to be a great sleeping companion, so that you and your family can have a comfortable and healthy sleep.
