Doesn't the American jails give prisoners too much luxury?
These are hardened thugs, criminals. Why should they be allowed all these luxuries? Why does America spend more money pampering prisoners than educating students?
They're able to work and earn wages, no matter how menial it is, they're able to earn degrees, play various sports, workout, and get 3 full course meals daily. They're given free cloths and haircuts, have a recreation room with many leisure activities to do, my goodness I could go on forever about all the luxuries they receive, all on the dollar of the taxpayer. And what did they do to be pampered like this? Crimes!
Other prisons in other parts of the world treat the criminals like prisoners, not like kings and queens. American prisons are practically 5 star hotels in comparison.
If reparations are awarded, a portion of what they earn goes to their victims. Education is essential, as many have not been able to get a decent education. I think they get too many things, and I think that instead of weight lifting they should do yoga--more meditative and it actually could help them.
Prisons are very crowded places and you don't want the prisoners too restive. I wouldn't call them luxuries, and losing your freedom is not worth any luxury I don't think. There are terrible problems with gangs, and anything that detracts from that is good, not a luxury.
You really want prisons like most of the world? Turkey maybe? We are a developed country and even our prisons have to have a certain level.
